World-Renowned Book Sale Starts the Year in the City of Golden Friendship
CAGAYAN DE ORO, Philippines — Book lovers in Cagayan de Oro, watch out! Big Bad Wolf, the world’s most renowned travelling book sale, has landed in the City of Golden Friendship!
To kickstart the new year, Big Bad Wolf Books officially marks Cagayan de Oro as its first destination in the Philippines through a ribbon-cutting ceremony held last February 1, 2024 at SM CDO Downtown Premier, with notable guests including His Excellency, Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines, Hon. Jocelyn Rodriguez, the Vice Mayor of Cagayan de Oro City, and Ms. Aliah Dimaporo, Undersecretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Cagayan de Oro leg is set to be a very special one as the Red Readerhood Program, the Book Sale’s local initiative, makes a return in 2024, further solidifying its commitment to literacy and education in underserved communities.
This year, the Red Readerhood Program is set to bring a transformative educational opportunity that will benefit the Toril communities and students in Marawi City through the Mindanao State University’s King Faisal Center for Islamic, Arabic, and Asian Studies.
By donating 1,000 books and fostering a love for reading, the program empowers children, regardless of their circumstances, to explore new worlds and unlock their full potential. Several students from different schools in Marawi City were present at the event, experiencing the joy of choosing books that resonate with them.
A first for Cagayan de Oro and Big Bad Wolf Books, the book sale takes place at the SM CDO Downtown Premier from February 2 to 18, 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. It promises to be “one for the books!” giving Kagay-anons the opportunity to experience the thrill of a Big Bad Wolf event and also a rare chance to explore the vast collection of books available.
This leg features over two million books, spanning different authors, genres, and languages, offering an expansive and diverse selection for readers of all interests and ages. What’s more, promos, giveaways, and discounts of up to 95% off on selected books will be waiting for those visiting the event.
